UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.
Since it was established in 1945, therefore, this year marks the 75th anniversary of UN Day. To commemorate this milestone, Member States held a special event on September 21st where they reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism.
The pandemic has emerged as a common enemy of the world today. The theme for UN Day 2020 is ‘The Future We Want, the UN We Need: Reaffirming our Collective Commitment to Multilateralism’.
